Goodbye to 2011…Whoa

Holy cats…only 1.5 more days of 2011 left.

2011 was a year of stasis.  I’m not sure if it’s a bad thing, or a good thing.

Mike and I lived apart for the entire year, with me in Ohio and him in Pennsylvania.

Things were good, though.  I think we’re doing better than ever with one another.  It would just be nice if we could be in the same state.

My family is better than ever.

My job is going well.

So although it WAS a year of stasis, I had a lot of fun and I’m very thankful for how great things are.

Plus, I got to go to Roseanne’s house with Kay and hang out in Indy with Barbs and Robert.

I got to participate in The Requiem Project and had a great time in Cincinnati.  I also got to take Mike to Kentucky for the first time.

My cousin, Heather had baby Jax.

Mike’s cousin, Heather had baby Grady and Tori had baby Brennan.

I did move into a new apartment, which is slightly non-stasis-y.

I visited Wilmington for the first time since I graduated.

I had my two-year anniversary with Mike in downtown Cleveland.

I pierced my rook

I guess I didn’t do too bad overall.  Like I said, I’m happy.  So since this is the last post of 2011, I wish you all a very HAPPY NEW YEAR and hope that you enjoy yourself.  Also, DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE!

Don’t drink and drive.  AAA will take you and your car home from 6pm-6am on New Year’s Eve/Day for FREE, even if you’re not a member.  Just call 800-222-4357!!!

What to Expect When You’re Blah Blah Blah…

Yeah yeah yeah, you’re already offended.  Take this all with a grain of salt, as I have never been pregnant, and have never been a mother.

I don’t understand all this crazy “read every book-buy every new gadget-try every new fad” approach to parenting.  Have we not survived years without books on what to expect?  I mean, seriously, my cousins were talking about all of the things you aren’t supposed to do while you’re pregnant and my mom looked at me and said, “I did all of that…”  Then all the tests that they can do before the kid is born?  It’s crazy!

And then once that baby actually is born…it gets worse.  Baby yoga?

WTF is baby yoga?  Let the kid play and take the time to play with it.  There’s its exercise!  Not giving your kids gender roles to follow?  Not disciplining them?  Not letting them get hurt and learning what not to do?  Rushing over every time they bounce on their padded little asses?  Because society tells you to “let their children choose for themselves” and that discipline is “abuse”.  To each their own, though, I guess…

My point is, don’t get over-educated and buy into so much crap just because you “read” about it.  Instinct is good.  You don’t need a book to teach you instinct.

Realistic Engagement Expectations

Ladies, first, we do not live in the movies.  Second, we are not Kardashians (thank God).  So there’s absolutely NO reason that we should expect to get 14 carat diamonds.  I mean, they’re very welcome if we can find a guy that can give them to us, but in reality, we shouldn’t expect them.

Here’s the thing.  I’d never expect that $16,000.00 diamond from Mike.  EVER.  While I do think that today’s standards are way higher than the used to be when it comes to women expecting things out of their engagement rings, I don’t think we ought to go over the top.

All I know is that I want a ring that I will be proud to wear for the rest of my life.

And another thing…maybe some of the married guys can speak for this.  Are you really going to buy a diamond from a super-pushy sales guy?  Seriously.  When Mike and I were in there (completely unromantically minus the fact that Mike put up with the first shopping day after Christmas crowd for me) to get links taken out of my watch, and this bonehead wanted our entire life story and he yelled at Mike for not proposing yet.

1)  Not his business.

2)  Guilt doesn’t work on guys.  It just makes them uncomfortable.

Am I wrong to think this way?  I just assume that if a guy feels the stress already of picking out an engagement ring that the stress of a pushy sales douche isn’t going to help.

$16,000 Diamonds and a Pushy Sales Dude

Well, Christmas is over.  Back to work.

Mike and I had a great weekend.  See?  (In my hand is the last glass of the entire bottle of wine that I consumed…and did not get a hangover because of my drinking practice.)

It was so good to be home and to see my family and some of my friends.  I’l post pictures of my loot once I take pictures of it all on my new camera!!!!

I love it so much!  Mike got it for me, and he also got me the bunny that I wanted.  MY BUNNY!  Because I call Mike “My Bunny” sometimes.  (Sorry, Bunny, outed our secret!)

My mom even surprised me with a few things, including a Kenneth Cole Reaction watch, a Michael Kors keychain, and Parenthood seasons 1 & 2!

Where are the $16,000 diamonds, you ask?  Right here.  Mike and I made the mistake of stopping at the mall to get links taken out of my watch on the way home Sunday.  It was PACKED.  We finally found a place to take the links out of my watch and while the guy was doing that, Mike let me play with diamonds.  I had a 1.51 carat $16,000 solitaire diamond ring on my hand!

Sure, it’d be nice to have that, but who the hell can afford it?  I would never expect Mike to get me that.  But I think that theory is for tomorrow’s post.

But the guy was so pushy and so obnoxious that we had to leave.  I think I’ll cover that tomorrow, too.

Cheers, everyone!  Now GET BACK TO WORK!

First Day of Vacation: Success!

Last night, I followed my parents home from Brunswick and we ate dinner at Samosky’s in Valley City.  First time, and it was AMAZING.  Then, I went to my cousin’s house for some baby and toddler squeezing.

I went for a run on my old country block, took a two hour nap, and now I’m watching stupid car shows with my Dad and waiting for Mom to hand me presents to wrap.

Oh, and eating Lucky Charms with real milk, not water!

I also found a box of old Christmas ornaments that quite frankly made me cry a lil with happiness.  I’ll try to get some pictures and post them later.

Medical Mystery

I’m deathly afraid to get on WebMD, so if any of you would like to do it for me, please, go forth.

Every day between 1:30 and 3:00 (close to 3) I get an achy head and an upset stomach.  Doesn’t matter what I eat/don’t eat.  It just happens.

And if you’re going to tell me I’m pregnant, don’t bother.  That is not possible, and I will smack you.

I believe I may have the Christmas sickness–the one you get when you just can’t freaking wait for December 25th.  My body is exhausted from Christmas parties and from searching Mike’s apartment for my Christmas gifts.  I go on sugar highs and come down hard to sugar lows.  I laugh at nothing.  I have a headache.  I have a stomachache.  I have 2.5 hours left until I am on Christmas vacation.

Where’s the Tylenol?
