A Letter to Myself: Quit Being a Little Bitch

14 Sep

Dear Erica,

Your friends are pointing out that you’ve been down in the dumps a lot lately.  Emo status updates, old mix CDs, and a complete lack of patience for anyone or anything.  Sometimes, you’re downright unreasonable.  So I’ve got one thing to say to you:

Quit being a little bitch.

Your life isn’t so bad.  You have a great job, and you can pay your own bills.  So quit your bellyachin’.  It’s also Fall, which is your favorite season.  So get your ass outside, go for a run, and smell the leaves.  And I know you’re moving into a new apartment in a week and a half, so that’s damn exciting, too.  Plus, your new car is well worth the payments.

Your parents are pretty awesome, too.  So quit being so cranky with them.  And other things–well, if they’re meant to be, they’ll be.

Otherwise, go drink a beer, relax, and shut up.

Love,

Erica

I think when one feels a certain way, it’s because they need to. Your body/mind/spirit is working through something. Don’t shortchange yourself or sell yourself short. Let whatever this is run its course. You are valid. Your feelings are valid. When you’re ready to feel better you will. You’re a wonderful person with a heart that dwarfs Mount Everest. Don’t smother your feelings. They will only fester and grow.

No! If you “buck up,” then I’ll have to as well. 🙂 Just be you, emo or not.
